Vegie Hut

Vegie Hut is one of the Chinese restaurant that served only vegetarian food. They are one of the few Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Located in one of the busy suburb of Box Hill, famous for Chinese & Asian restaurants.

Roast Pork & Duck

The "meats" used in the dishes are made out of the bean curds to resemble real meat. It is amazing how they can create ingredients that are so similar to the real thing in texture and taste.

Penang Asam Fish

The "asam" sauce has sourish taste, you can easily finish two bowl of rice with the sauce because it is really appetizing. The fish is created by one of the vegetarian as well, with the sea weed wrapped together as the skin to give the give the fish fishy taste.

The Yam Basket

Yam basket with stir fried prawns, vegetables and cashew nuts was my favorite of the day. The yam basket is actually a yam bowl that is deep fried to create the crispy outer skin and yet maintaining the softness and the moistness of the yam inside. The yam on its own does not have much taste to it, it is the sauce of the stir fried prawns and vegetables that gives the dish a barbecue taste.

Monga Dessert Lounge

So have you guys try or planned to give a try at Petaling Street?

Do you all know that there is a dessert lounge at level 2 that opened together on the same day with Petaling Street? Now, let me bring you guys to this Hong Kong style dessert place.

The dessert lounge interior is a mixture of modern and traditional. Furniture and decorations are similar to what you can find in a typical coffee shop in Hong Kong like the staircase, bird cages etc.

What comes in my mind whenever I went in to a dessert shop? Red bean sweet soup is my 1st choice that I cannot miss the opportunity to try. What is Red bean sweet soup or in Chinese we called it "Hong Tau Shui" ? This "Hong Tau Shui" is actually mixed with of course Red beans and mandarin/orange peel that boiled together until the beans properly soft.

My bro had his grass jelly with watermelon. It didn't turn out to be like what we expected. We thought the dessert would have some ice flakes beneath and brown sugar water with the watermelon and grass jelly. However, the dessert was quite boring as the grass jelly itself does not have much taste to it and the few watermelon balls couldn't bring out much of the sweetness to the dessert.

Petaling Street

"Chi Cheong Kai" is finally now in Box Hill after Glen Waverly & Glenferrie. Today me and my bro went to this newly opened restaurant at Box Hill called Petaling Street or in cantonese they are called as "Chi Cheong Kai" where It's the Chinatown that located in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

This restaurant is selling Malaysian hawker foods where we usually can find it back in Malaysia. The interior is looking good and I find it very spacious not like others Malaysian cuisine restaurant with squeezy space.

Lo Bak is a dish that mostly liked by everyone and it's also as known as marinated meat. And because it is marinated with 5 spice powder, it is then called 5 spice lo bak / lor bak or Ngor Hiang lor bak which is Hokkien for 5 spice powder. There are many variations recipes for lo bak in Malaysia Penang food.

It is a very popular Nyonya delight food and nowadays you can find it sold in the hawkers centre, economy food in food court, street food or restaurants. The one in Petaling Street, Melbourne I find it abit pricey because it sold at $6 for 3 pieces.

Hakka pork belly with fungus served with dry egg noodles is quite nice but a little bit oily and fat.

Still remember the post that I reviewed before about "Nga Po Lo Shu Fen" ? Click the link and go back to the post. This Petaling street Claypot or "Nga pou" lo shu fun is basically some fried short rice noodle in Claypot. They don't serve it with raw eggs and the I find that they actually don't really cook it together in the claypot like those back in Malaysia.

If the Claypot Lo Shu Fen can have the choices of adding extra raw egg, I reckon it will be more nicer.

Ann Ann

I've tried out one of the Vietnamese restaurant that located at Box Hill quite some time ago. From what I know, the restaurant is basically not opened by Vietnamese owner but Chinese. They do serve other dishes such as porridge in pot.

I find it nice but I got no chance to try it. Well, this restaurant quite good is because they opened for supper as well, find it out if you feel hungry during night time. Let me show you some of the dish they served at my picture below;

This is what you normally can see when you go to any Vietnamese restaurant when you ordered noodles soup.

Spicy beef noodles.

Crispy chicken with tomato rice.

Mango & Strawberry on shaved ice.
